IPL is the first Photoepilation technology proven to treat unwanted pigmented hair safely on any skin type from very light to very dark skin. It offers a gentle, non-invasive, long lasting solution to unwanted hair on the face, back, legs, bikini line or any other body area.

The most common and affordable methods of hair removal have traditionally been shaving, depilatory creams, waxing and electrolysis – performed either at home or in beauty centers. Now a safe and permanent solution is available in the form of Intense Pulse Light (IPL).

How IPL Photoepilation Works.

Hair removal imageIPL works on the principle of selective light and heat. The energy level is adjusted prior to the treatment based on the skin type and hair colour to ensure maximum safety and efficiency of the skin matrix.

Flashes of broad-spectrum light from the IPL hand piece are applied to the target area. The light selectively targets the melanin in the hair, elevating the temperature of the hair shaft, which increases the hair follicle temperature needed to damage the hair bulb, the surrounding blood supply, and stem cells responsible for hair growth.

The result is long-term hair removal for hair-free skin. Only hair in the active growing phase of the hair cycle will be damaged, so each treatment will effectively destroy about 20% of the target hair. As a result of this, a series of 6 to 8 treatments are needed, with a minimum time of 2 months apart, to achieve permanent hair reduction.

Any hair with at least some pigment in it (black, brown, and Dark Blond) can be treated effectively.

Unfortunately IPL does not effectively treat blonde, grey or white hair. IPL is the first Photoepilation procedure proven to effectively treat unwanted hair on all skin types, including dark-skinned individuals such as those with African, Hispanic and Asian descent.

The hair above the skin is trimmed away or shaved. You will be asked to wear dark glasses to protect your eyes from the bright light. Next, the IPL hand piece is applied to your skin and pulses of light begin disabling your unwanted hair.

The hair in the treated area will appear to continue to grow over a two-week period as it’s is being pushed out of the skin; you will then have a hair free period of an average of 2 to 3 weeks.

Side effects are rare. Slight reddening or local swelling at the treatment site may be experienced, but this typically goes away within hours.

On extremely rare occasions, some blistering may occur, but typically resolves quickly. Following the treatment, you can generally return to work and resume all regular activities immediately.

IPL technology has proven to create a permanent reduction in the number of re-growing hairs following each treatment in most skin types.

A customized treatment program will be designed for you along with an estimate of how many treatments you may need in order to meet your expectations. On average we can effectively remove 90% of the initially hair growth, with the remaining hair left being a wispy, slower growing hair.

You must not wax or pluck the hair in the specific area you want treated for 3-4 weeks prior to starting IPL.

Whilst having IPL treatments you cannot continue to wax or pluck. Shaving, trimming or depilatory cream are desirable. When you arrive for your first appointment, it is best to have shaved the area to make the treatment most effective.
